The Joy of Spring Festival

Spring Festival, also known as Chinese New Year, is the most important traditional festival in China. It marks the beginning of a new year according to the lunar calendar and is celebrated with great enthusiasm across the country. As the festival approaches, people start preparing weeks in advance. Homes are thoroughly cleaned to sweep away bad luck and make way for good fortune. After dinner, families watch the CCTV New Year’s Gala or play card games, laughing and chatting late into the night.

On New Year’s Day, children wake up to find red envelopes filled with money from their elders. These “hongbao” represent blessings and wishes for health and success. People then visit relatives and friends, exchanging greetings and well-wishes. Fireworks light up the sky at midnight, driving away evil spirits and ushering in the new year.

Throughout the holiday, cultural activities like dragon dances, lion dances, and temple fairs take place. These performances not only entertain but also honor ancient traditions. Spring Festival is more than just a celebration; it strengthens family bonds and keeps cultural heritage alive.
